SEE FOR YOURSELF

See For Yourself is a new after-school Bible Study for years 7-10. We are following a curriculum produced by the Christian Education and Nurture Committee of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. The curriculum starts with a survey of the OT and NT, following God's great plan from Genesis to Revelation. The survey is designed to help students understand where all those bits and pieces they know fit into this single great unfolding plan.

When we have completed the survey, we will move onto studies based on the Westminster Confession of Faith which puts together everything we know about God and the Christian Life in a logical way – so it’s easier to understand and remember. In this way, our young people will be equipped to correctly understand the message of the Bible, be able to make right choices, and, by the grace of God, come into a saving knowledge of Christ if they haven't already.

At present we meet straight after school on a Monday, with 14 young people having expressed their interest in coming. Each person is supplied with an appealing workbook. After one or two or several muffins and donuts, we have spent 45 minutes – 1 hour on our study. The highlight has been the active interest and participation of those there, with lots and lots of great questions which indicate their interest and the deep and intelligent thought these young adults put into their faith.

Please pray that these young adult’s interest continues, that the Lord would open their understanding and draw them into deeper knowledge of him, and that all those present would grow to become men and women who fear the Lord and bring glory to him.

Until the SFY material came out I was having trouble generating interest in my junior teens Bible study. One person in particular had difficulty concentrating, a boy with poor reading skills. I visited him and showed him the new material. Such was his interest that even as I talked he took the book from my hands and started paging through it. His attendance and his attention improved dramatically. Good stuff!!
